When is it the right choice?
The quality of the driven tool holder determines how rigid milling and drilling are on the lathe, how long changeovers take and how long the tool lasts. WTO supplies holders made for your machine, based on the machine builder's data.
Applications
Turning centers with live tooling
Swiss-type lathes, multi-spindle automatics
Y-axis machines, multiple holders
Benefits
Machine-specific range for 80+ machine builders
Internal coolant up to 80 bar
Hardened and ground design
QuickFlex® quick change system
Driven tool holders with an ER collet chuck that can be upgraded to quick change at any time with QuickFlex® adapters. Tools are preset outside the machine. The QuickFlex® smart version adds online condition monitoring, and nanoFlex® is the quick change system for Swiss-type lathes.
Key data
Sizes ER-20 to ER-50
Max. 0.005 mm runout with two taper connections
Adapters for ER, Weldon, shrink fit and hydro chucks, tapping
Benefits
Presetting outside the machine
One-hand change with a patented wrench
smart: speed, temperature and vibration online
CoolSpeed® high-speed spindle
A turbine-driven high-speed spindle powered by the machine's own coolant, with no motor or cabling. It gives small-diameter tools the cutting speed they need for milling, drilling, grinding, deburring and engraving.
Versions
mini: 30,000–80,000 rpm, air mist too
Flex: 1–5 adjustable jets, from 8 l/min
MAX: two turbines, up to 1,100 W
Benefits
No motor, no cabling
Fits standard tool holders
Longer life for small tools
Broaching Unit
Oriented keyways and internal or external involute splines (DIN 5480, DIN 5482) broached on the lathe in one setup. The same insert holder works for ID and OD broaching, simply rotated by 180°.
Key data
Working stroke 32 or 52 mm
Up to 1,000 strokes/min, 12 mm groove width
Materials up to 1,200 N/mm²
Benefits
ID and OD broaching with one insert holder
Lift-off function protects the edge
OD and face mounted versions
Power Skiving Unit
High-productivity machining of internal and external gears and splines on turning centers. Tool and workpiece rotate in sync, and the machine's Y axis compensates the offset.
Key data
Up to 3,000 rpm, 63 Nm
±45° swing with sine bar
Ø20 mm hydro chuck (DIN 1835A)
Benefits
Internal and external gears, splines
Minimal runout, fast tool changes
Internal and external coolant, up to 80 bar
Gear Hobbing Unit
Hobbing of spur and helical gears and splines (DIN 5480, DIN 5482, TORX) on turn/mill centers. Shifting the hob along the Y axis uses every cutting edge.
Key data
Up to module 6, in 4 sizes
Up to 6,000 rpm, ±30° swing
Gear quality ISO 1328 8 / AGMA 8
Benefits
Spur and helical gears, splines
Presettable hob, interchangeable arbor
Removable counter support for fast changes
Thread Whirling Unit
High-productivity thread whirling on the lathe, with a patented quick change system that significantly cuts tool change time.
Key data
42BJ: up to Ø12 mm, 0–20°, 8,000 rpm
54BJ: up to Ø22 mm, 0–30°, 6,000 rpm
±0.005 mm runout and repeatability
Benefits
Insert holder changed from the back
The unit stays aligned in the machine
Insert holders: Horn, Schwanog, Utilis
